As of 2 days ago I am unable to message any of my co workers and supervisors. I am able to log into spark successfully but when I click a name to message someone it does not pull up their name and cannot begin a chat with them.
I see some other requests for this, but I do not see any resolution. Is there a way to disable the "Jim has left the conversation" message?

I was wondering if I could get some help on this problem users are experiencing with Spark.
When the try and launch Spark, it never opens for them but it shows up under processes in task manager.
The users having this problem are all on folder redirection.
Spark version is 2.7.1.686
Windows 7 SP1 with all windows updates.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Got SSO working in my environment. (Windows 2012 R2 Openfire Server, 2008R2 DC , MySQL ) However, I need to make this work without local admin rights on my Windows 10 test machine. Run I run as local admin it works and it will pull my Account. Without local admin it will not pull my account. I tried running Process monitor to see what it is accessing and I cannot find what is blocking it from finding the account name. Any input?
Hello,
I am in the process of trying to automate updating spark, as we have been using the older version and need all of our users to update to the newer one, I have a script that will delete old spark and install the new one. one of the problems I am facing though is that we can't have users using the save password box built in to spark. We need our chat more secure, I've been reading online that the properties file has options that will hide said box but every time I make changes to this file and open spark it repopulates the file with the old settings. This one file is cause way more trouble then it should. is there someway to make spark not recreate the file every time?
We use spark in our office and would like to force people to use these settings and disable their ability to modify them. Is there a way to force these settings on the users in my company. How can I push these changes over the network. We use LDAP for authentication on and AD network. Mostly Windows computers with 2 Macs just to make my life difficult.
Hi
New installation of openfire on a new server
I have opened firewall on server and client yet I cannot log in. Either I get cannot find server after authenticating is displayed for a few minutes (when server is simply server name or the ip address), or if I change the server address to http://server:9090, then I instantly get the message Invalid username or password.
Help!
Thanks a billion!
p.s. Before upgrading our server, we used wildfire for years without issue!
One of my users wants the message window to become immediately visible/on top of all windows when it comes in. is there any option to do this? Or at least some sort of alert?

[SPARK-1696] Fastpath not working on Mac OS X - Jive Software Open Source
Fastpath is not working in Spark (probably since 2.6.0 version). The tab appears and one can see as being logged into a workgroup, but no other GUI appears in the tab (queues, agents, etc.). All other functionality is not working also (probably).
i've a question about the IM Client "Spark", version 2.5.8.
as little notice, english isn't my native language, that's german, but i hope this text will be ok.
This program is used by one of my customers, installed on multiple computers with operating system "Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3". (Also Openfire version 3.7.0 is installed on a Server with operating system "Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition", maybe that's important too?)
The program is working mostly fine, but there is one function that causes problems to my customer:
If a user sends an alert notification to another user, the message appears as a popup correctly, but it disappears much to early.
Is there a way to adapting spark, that the alert notification will stay on the desktop, until the user will read and close the notification box? Maybe with a button like "X" or "close"?
I searched the community, but found nothing that could handle this little problem.
So i hope somebody knows a solution...
Preferable is a solution without programming because lacking knowledge about that.
thanks @ all
This is strange. And it's getting on my nerves. No one can login, not even myself / admin. spark will not authenticate to the server. I can't even login to the admin console to see what's going on or tell you what version of openfire i'm running.
pertinent details...
- server is setup as LDAP.
- can ping hostname & ip address.
- simply put no one can login. it's like the LDAP has been busted.
- Spark Ver 2.7.5.752 (i don't think this matters because everyone is having the same issue, but not everyone is necessarily on the same client version).
Is it at all possible to modify the .xml config file from the terminal when i'm having this problem?? - Maybe i can reconfigure set the config to <false> and reconfigure?
All ideas welcome! Thanks!
For just one of my users, typing in the bottom pane of a chat window and pressing Enter does not display the text in the conversation pane above. However, when the recipient responds, then both the original text and the response appear. Although this is not a terrible problem, the user can never be sure her text was sent, so she presses Enter multiple times (which looks crazy to the recipient).
Is there a setting that controls this behavior? Or do you recommend a remove/reinstall of the client?
Thank you.
Hello,
I'm using spark with Fedora core 5 and when a user send a web link in a window chat, it can't be opened. Any ideas?
Thanks.

This guide is a revised copy of pdf guide included in Spark (Help > User guide) till Spark 2.7.5. Since 2.7.6 the link in Spark will point to this wiki document instead. This way it will be easier to maintain and update the guide. Also old pdf guide became very obsolete.
Note: Spark offers several special features not described in this short guide (like Fastpath and additional plugins).
Getting started
1. Start Spark.
2. Enter your login information, then click Login.
If your server supports it, you can create a new account by clicking Accounts button and entering the information for your new account.
Main window
Main window (also called Roster or Contacts window) shows a menu on top, which allows to access Preferences, edit your profile and do various actions like adding contacts, customizing view. Bookmarks menu will also show up in there when a user will add bookmarks. Note: Spark menu has been renamed to File since the 2.7.6 version. Below the menu Spark shows an avatar selected by a user, his name and his current status. In the middle there is a section showing user's contacts. Green bubble represent Online users (gray are for Offline users, Away users are yellow and DND are red). At the bottom of the window there is a search field to find new contacts (not to search among the already added ones). A little lock icon shows if your Spark is logged in using a secure encrypted connection (lock means SSL\TLS).
Filling out your profile
You can fill out your personal information (Name, Occupation, Phone numbers) by going into menu File and selecting Edit my profile... entry. You can also set your avatar there in the Avatar tab.
Adding contacts
1. Select Contacts menu and the Add contact item.
2. Enter your contact's information. In the Add Contact dialog, enter the contact's username. This will look like an email address. That's how XMPP user names work.
3. Select or enter the name of the group you want to add the contact to, then click Add.
If you decide you'd rather have a contact in another group, simply right-click their name, point to Move to, then click the name of the group you want to move them to. You can create groups in the same manner. Note that in some setups shared groups may be set by a server's administrator so contacts are populated automatically and a user doesn't have to add them manually (usually in a corporate environment).
Changing your status
To change your status press the expand icon near the Online status just below your name and select one available or create and apply a custom one. Note that in some cases your status will change automatically (e.g. Away after a set time of being idle).
Sending messages
Spark is using tabs to present separate one to one chats or group chats. In the top left corner of a window you can see your contact's avatar (if he has set one), name, occupation, email address. On the right there is a toolbar letting you check contact's profile, start a group chat automatically inviting that user, send files, send screenshot, view complete chat history. This toolbar can also show additional buttons enabled by plugins. Like OTR button in the above example. In the middle of a window you can see the old (before the line) and current history. Usually it shows 20 last messages, but this can be disabled in the Preferences. At the bottom there is a field to put your message in (pressing Enter will send your message). Above the input field there is an emoticon picker, spellchecker button and a 'buzz' (or 'nudge') button, which allows to draw an attention of your contact by shaking his/her window. On the right there is a little button with a red cross, which allows setting the chat window to show always on top of other windows.
Sending broadcast messages
You can broadcast a message to everyone on your contact list by going into menu Actions and selecting the Broadcast message option. In there you can select whole Roster, individual users or groups, enter you message and send it to selected users. Alternatively you can select a subset of people you want to broadcast to by holding the CTRL key and clicking on their
names in the contacts list (on the Macintosh, hold the Command key), then right-clicking and selecting Send broadcast to selected users.... You can also right-click the group's name and select Broadcast message to group.
Sending files
Files can be sent from the chat window by using the Send file button on the toolbar or just dragging files into a chat window. One can also right-click a contact in the list and select Send a file option. When a user gets a request to receive a file, he has to accept it. After the file has been received a user can press Open or Open folder to access that file.
Using group conferences
Using group chat can be an alternative to scheduling a meeting. To start a group chat click the Actions menu, then click Start a conference option. You can set a name for a temporary group chat room, select users to invite and start a conference. To join an existing room go to Actions menu and select the Join conference room entry. In the room browser you will be able to browse existing rooms, bookmark and join them.
Tip: You can also start a conference by selecting the names of people in your contact list, right-clicking one of them, then clicking Start a conference.
Using Voice Chat
Disclaimer: Voice Chat functionality has been broken since the 2.6.0 versions. In 2.7.6 an experimental version of rewritten voice chat module has been added, but it still needs testing and may have problems. This section of the guide will be updated once the functionality is in usable state.
Useful tips
Press Ctrl+F (while in the contacts or chat window) and start filling the name. It will automatically filter out from all of your contacts. This is a fast way to find a contact in a huge roster.
Press Ctrl+T (only works in a roster window) - it will show frequent contacts, the people you chat most with.
Press Ctrl+E (only works in a roster window) - it will show a list of users you had conversations with recently. A quick way to find whom you were talking with recently, if you can't remember the name.
If a contact you want to talk to is Away (or even Offline) and you want to know right away when he is available. Right-click such contact and select Alert when user is available. Spark will open a chat windows with that contact once he gets Online. Note: Spark will remember this task only until it is turned off.
Random question: I'm trying to deploy Spark silently via PDQ Deploy and was wondering if there's a switch to attach it to a server but still prompt for username/password? Any combination I've found doesn't seem to work (The fields are still blank when opening the program).
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
